Ignorance is Bliss [written September 12, 2009]

Under the giants that we all are
is a village for creatures unseen
Clinging to the asphalt and tar
is, to us, an invisible scene

But to these very small beings,
we have quite monstrous feet
They run screaming and fleeing,
so their deaths they might cheat

Yet from the very top of it all,
we do not notice the maul
For we are undoubtedly tall
and they are clearly quite small

So every new day we smash
many small houses and huts
Stampeding through in a flash,
killing and spilling their guts

They think that we are idols
We don't believe they are there
In that we become homicidal,
never answering their prayers

Through time we have coexisted,
we ignore them, they feel despair
This relationship is vastly twisted
Yet we choose to remain unaware

Because from the top of it all,
we do not acknowledge the maul
For we are stupendously tall
and they are exceedingly small

Far bellow everything that we see
is a world we choose to ignore,
a world so helpless under our feet
Is it necessary that I say more?

Know that everyone plays a role
I hope this remains in your head
Next time you decide to go for a stroll,
try to remember what I have said...
